It is just what we know. There is a lot of new information revealed about the world through each fallout game. So, in the Uk they have the ability to either repair or make a boat/ship that can not only cross the ocean but they can navigate the distance as well. Some problems with it.1)If they can build or repair such a ship they are obviously doing better than anyone on the east coast is.

The west coast as well.2) A boat like that would command almost unlimited power. Raid the land for supplies and then sail off where no one can touch you.3) He has a boat, or at least is on a boat and he chooses the most desolate and poor are of the fallout universe we have ever seen?4) Why is nothing of this boat seen, or talked about in game?. If the Vikings could build ships able to cross the Atlantic, and then do it, it's not too impressive. Sure they can go raiding the coastlines, but it's not exactly like the coastlines are going to be that easy to raid. Especially with guns.

The NCR has Vertibirds, the Enclave does too. I'm pretty sure a Vertibird versus a boat is a pretty unfair advantage. Most coastal settlements would be substantially bigger than inland ones, and also they'd have dealt with sea raiders in the past if it exists, so they'd have built up good defenses. Walls, guards, barracks, etc.Going to a poor region where you're the richest man around isn't too bad for making your fortune. He has the resources to set up a nice place like Tenpenny Tower, pay for security, set up a bit of civilization in an uncivilized waste. There's also no rules, so he can basically be a king. He doesn't have to deal with a potential 'Ghouls have human rights' rule of a nation, he can just say 'Fuck Ghouls, kill 'em all.' And have his men do it.

I mean, he's got a pretty swanky gig at the tower. He probably set out to the Wasteland when he was a good deal younger, so the boat may be gone now. Maybe it went back to England, maybe he never thought it'd be important to mention crossing on his boat. Maybe the boat's not even there anymore.Just some possible explanations. If the Vikings could build ships able to cross the Atlantic, and then do it, it's not too impressive. The Vikings didn't start from nothing after a war. Why is a sail boat not plausible?

If the UK has more forested areas that gives them supplies to build wooden ships with. I can't imagine the Scottish highlands getting hit too hard, and the UK would hardly have been high on a priority list of targets.Even if it was, they could have trade with Europe itself. Not for fuel and such, but for wood, food, etc. Ships would be helpful for getting food, and fishing is a major thing for the English. Not the biggest, but major.

The idea of a society developing a method to build wooden boats after the war, originally to be able to gather fish (which could be safer than hunting down land creatures. At least with a sea mutant, all you have to do is get it on the boat and it'll die within hours of being out of the water), they begin trading with other coastal people in northern Europe.Scandinavia is heavily forested today, unless all of their lumber is gone it's not too unlikely for them to have developing a neo-Viking society there. Perhaps trade between the Scandinavians, northern Europe, the English Isles, and such exists.

Mainly in lumber, but also in food, spices, etc.All they need is lumber, knowledge of sailing, and the memory that 'to the west there's a place of possibility'. Maybe they have the US as a kind of legendary place of possibility and new beginnings, when it's no longer that way.I mean it's all speculation, but there's no reason that Europe is in shit just because they lack fossil fuels. All they need is a supply of lumber, a way to grow food, and a sufficient population to work the land for both of those. They probably have sailed before.

They probably have trade between the British Isles, coastal Europe, and Scandinavia. It makes sense, because they only need TREES and it's suddenly possible. As long as they have a source of lumber they can sail, which then provides fish and foreign trade, which then improves life practically immediately.Building a boat like that would require the ability to fashion wood, cloth and rope. The ability to fabricate metal and or fiberglass parts would make the resulting boat nicer but isn't at all necessary. I mean, it's not like when Lief Erickson crossed the ocean he was sailing in a modern Oracle racing style catamaran or something.

The navigation part is actually pretty trivial as long as either stars or magnetic compasses still exist in the Fallout universe.I think you're overestimating how much power it would give you. But historically the ability to show up unexpectedly somewhere with a bunch of highly trained soldiers WAS a big advantage so it's pretty realistic. For 3 and 4 I think we're talking about a narrative reason. So far none of the Fallout games have really been about maritime adventures so the story isn't focused on that stuff. While the setting is pretty rich, its creators are more trying to tell good stories using it than world-building as a goal unto itself.

When people go off to seek their fortune they do on of two things, 1)Head to a rich civilized place where the streets are paved with gold; or 2) Head off to the edges of society where money can be made due to the lawlessness/lack of ownership. Its entirely possible that Europe is relatively fine but lacking opportunities to make a fortune. After all: '2. What happened to China, Russia, or any other areas outside the area explored in Fallout 1 and 2?I don't know. To tell the truth, I really don't care.'

I am very familiar with the greater dc area since I live hear. I think the map is a good, and I appreciate the effort you put into it, but if you want it to be as accurate as possible it seems that some of the icons that represent in game locations are a bit off for instance the citadel should be directly over the Pentagon, Raven rock should either be up in Pa over the raven rock complex, or over Mt.Weather since it represents one of those locations.

Little lamp light is based off of Luray caverns in Virgina so it ahould be over Luray, Va and vault 87 should be a little north of Luray. Arefu should be in Potomic falls directly across the potomac river from Seneca, Md. Andale should be directly on top of annandale, Va. This is just to name a few examples. When bethesda recreates a location in game, the in game map is never spaced out the exact same as the real world.
