.The only problem is, I'm a bit picky about what I want to see. Truth be told, I think more of what I'm looking for are psychological thrillers with horror elements.I'm really up for anything, provided it doesn't have any of this:1. Graphic sexual assault of men or women on camera.2. Frequent scenes of over the top disgusting stuff.To me, these things are cheap scares and usually the signs of a really poorly made film. What I really crave are neat monster designs and atmosphere. Despite the fact I do like horror, I can't really think of ones I've seen for examples that I liked enough to want to see again except for one I recently saw.Did anyone else see The Babadook?
Unfortunately it wasn't scary at all, and the monster got barely any screen time, but I really loved this.EDIT: Wait! Jacob's Ladder was really great! Forgot about that!I've mostly enjoyed horror through video games. The Cat Lady and Rule of Rose are prime examples of what I like. Really intriguing stories with some spooky stuff thrown in there.I hope that's enough to go on! If you want some psychological horror shit that will keep you up thinking for days.
I recommend movies from Park Chan Wook especially Oldboy and Sympathy for lady vengeance and Sympathy for Mr. He's just a great filmmaker in general. And IMO Koreans make the best horror in the world, the Japanese would be a close second IMO, if not tied.
But if you want something challenging for your psyche and is just downright fucked up (excuse my language) I recommend you watch Audition by Takeshi Miike ASAP. This is one of the most weirdest, scariest and oddly enough, beautiful films that I've ever seen in my life.
Be fucking ready:)But if you want something that is truly fucked up and mind numbingly creepy and scary. You should definitely watch Strange Circus by Sion Sono. I have not yet personally watched this movie but it's been on my list of 'to watch' movies for a long time (I already have this movie on my hard drive but i just can't seem watch it for some reason) plus i think I'm not yet ready to watch this movie just yet.Just saying:) He's the guy who directed 'Suicide Club' amongst his long list of great movies.
And if you don't know him and you're a fan of horror, SHAME ON YOU:(I also recommend you to watch HImizu also made by Sion Sono also. Although it's not horror cause it deals more with the psychological aspects of the characters in the movie but it's just one of those films that you should watch before you die IMO. It's one of my favorite movies of all time:)I would like to list more but it seems that others have already posted them:)You should also watch 3 extremes. Took me forever to find St-Francisville Experiment, it was like nobody had ever heard of it.Do you have any link for it that is active right now??
